"Follow your heart, but be quiet for awhile first. Ask questions then feel the answer. Learn to trust your heart."
I've heard so m,any people quote this, or variations of it lately,This whole "follow your heart" movement is quite the big deal in my friend circle. Many of the movies I watch, much of the music I listen to, and people I hear, feel their way through life, believing that to find true happiness they must reach within themselves, find the "god within" and many don't necessarily say that they want to be gods, but they are in essence saying so when they follow this New Age stream of thinking.
I have Christian friends who believe that they must find themselves within, who believe that all their emotions and feelings are guiding them in the way they should go. I listen intently as they pour out all their heart's desires.
"I really feel like my heart is saying that I should get together with him, I mean he's just so perfect don't you think? and every time I talk to him my heart gives a leap!" they say.
"Is it possible to feel this way?"
It's possible to feel anything! Is it possible for me to feel like I want to hurt you right now? yes, but that make it right? Not at all. As humans we feel many things, hunger, thirst, passion, lust, excitement, ext. But these feeling shouldn't lead us in all our decisions, no, we should be leading our hearts, for they are going astray. We are sinful, fallen human beings and need to wake up to the reality that we are not good. We are all sinners, we have all fallen short of God's glory. looking within ourselves, trying to find the god within will not accomplish anything. Peace, understanding, and true happiness can only come through Faith in out Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If He leads your life and is the center of it, you will be able to lead your heart in the right direction. If you take off all the selfish desires and place God on your hearts throne you need not worry about whether or not you need to get together with that guy, or about that job interview, or about school stress, or anything in fact. When God takes over the drivers seat he takes over worrying about tomorrow, all you ahve to think about is today, growing nearer to Him and living for Him.
Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23
"Don't just follow your heart because your heart can be deceived; you've got to lead your heart."

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 199:11
-This verse reminds me of why we study and memorize scripture. Many times I've been in tough situations and verses from Sunday school long ago will come or a verse I just read that day. The Bible challenges us to live Godly lives and if His work is on our minds and hearts always, then It will help us not to stray, but to follow the narrow path we are required to travel.
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever Amen!
2nd Peter 3:18
